Langlois Chateau Vielles Vignes 1990

Hello, Sometimes even a monplololy does it right. On August 7th the Systembolaget released three vintages of Langlois Chateau VV, 1990, 1996, and 2002. These are 100% Chenin Blanc from Saumur - as for "viellles", the vines are minimum 35 ys old which does not appear very old to ME [1]. We managed to land one each of the '90 and '96, respectively, be we sincerely hope to get some more since we are confirmed CB nuts. The info on the Systembolaget did not inform us of anything except the alcohol content (13.4%), not even whether the wine was dry, semi-sweet, or sweet. Bother, said Pooh, "Google-san tomodachi-wa so desu"[3]. The wine was apparently dry as a bone and fish was recommended. The menu was a salald of fresh maize, onion vinaigrette, crayfish as starters, and grilled anglerfish with a small nicoise as main event. [c] The wine is crystal clear, golden. [N] Very intense, typical CB nose with a complex melange of vegetables, freshly boiled maize (sic!), apricots, honey, and a whiff of wet wooly mittens [P] The immediate impression is freshness, followed by a rounded fruitiness, and aromas of beginning maturity. The acidity while strong never turned aggressive, and the length was very good.

Overall impression: At SEK 232, this is a fair QPR. A wine definitely intended for a meal, not for idle social drinking. It has by no means reached its prime, I would suspect it to have at least a decade head of it.

Cheers

[1] I mean, I sometimes wish _I_ was 35 years old again[2]! [2] Not very often, though [3] Pooh is not very good at Japanese
