Exactly what information did you use to form your own opinion, besides just reading other peoples opinions and parroting them?

Convince me, using real data not just someone elses opinion, that some how Robert Parker is worthy of your juvenile diatribes against him.

I used to read what he wrote, and then I found in my own wine-drinking that he was full of crap. He praised wines that sucked, and disparged wines that are attractive. he believes, erroneously, that Italian wines should be judged in the same way that F_____ or American versions of F______ wines are judged. That's incorrect. Italian wines are totally different.

There you ago again. Just spouting off some one else's thoughts with nothing to back them up. No specifics, just very general statements and innuendo.

I've never met the guy. I've never even subscribed to the guy's newsletter. I just don't like it when you spout off as fact something that is beyond your knowledge and then refuse to back it up with anything that remotely resembles fact. You just parrot what someone else says and complain about what other people do while doing the same thing yourself. It's hypocritical, bigoted, and juvenile and shows exactly how little you know and how worthless your opinions are.

I was in a wine shop Saturday, when in walks an older lady (very pale) probably about late 50s or so. Very haughty air about her, I might add. Told the prop that she was looking for a case of Charles Krug 'Cabernet'. He responded by saying that they made several: 'Which one d'ya want'? 'I don't have a case of that.' 'I'll have to order it.'

She also declaimed that she wanted a sparkling white--to have with salmon.

I found this whole scene hysterical.....

The amount of absolute puffery that surrounds wine is unbelievable. It's just wine!

I find trips to the wine shop a constant source of amusement and hilarity.

How absolutely vain so many people are, what with the points and the posturing. Just drink the (Italian, of course) wine with some nice food (Italian, of course) and enjoy life (the way Italians, of course, do).

For an individual person why do they have to judge any wine in particular fashion? You make it sound as if everyone should love wines that are rated as attractive and dislike wines that aren't. Neat thing about people, they have different tastes. For me, my judging method is rather simple. I try a wine and I like it or I don't. I don't care at all whether it got a 99 or an 89 rating in some magazine.

Great. But do you read the magazine or pay attention to what is in it?

Sure but only to compare TN's. Not to tell me if a wine is good or bad though. I compare the TN's for similarities of TN's for wines I know I like. IOW's I like Karley Warrior Fire Zin. If I see a particular writer make TN's about it good or bad, and then make a similar TN's on another Zin it's likely the two are similar and I might like it.

Zinfandel and Primitivo are the same grape I believe. It doesn't seem like Primitivo winesin Europe is anywheres near as popular as the California Zinfandel wines.

I LOVE Primitivo, but I don't know how similar the Calif Zins are.

My point (or rant) in this thread was about Parker and Parkerized wines. Everything has to be BIG. Parker adheres to the same American attitude that prompts American men to make themselves into freaks of nature with body building and steroids, American women to have breast implants, and to drive huge SUVs. The whole thing makes me sick.

The other part of this is the need for 'scoring'. It's almost unheard of today for anything American not to have some metric attached to it. Everything has to be quantified. People talk about their houses in terms of square feet. So, to Americans, wine has to have a number attached to it.
