Most Expensive Bottle of Wine You've Ever Purchased?

What was the 1949 Redon like?

I had a lovely email from Roby (Italian) who posted here. I am going out to dinner tomorrow night and on his advice I am going to try a Barolo on my guests. I know nothing of Italian wines, so it should be an interesting evening.

If you are interested in great food in England, Google on Adlards Restaurant, it is wonderful.

Easy. A half bottle of Chateau d'Yquem at the Manoir aux Quatre Saisons in Oxfordshire, England.

400 pounds/800 dollars.

I wasn't paying ...

The most hubby and I have paid for a bottle of wine is $450 for a Hungarian Esszencia. We haven't opened it yet, but I'm sure it will be delicious!

He will have to do what I did after opening an expensive bottle of vintage Champagne that I bought at auction - poured it down the sink. It was utterly vile, it had turned into a sort of sherry, it was a big mistake but then again, I had the pleasure of holding the bottle and memories of the time when and where it was bottled engendered many happy thoughts. Mind you, I have bought another one at auction!
