My First 2000 Burgundy

I opened my first bottle of 2000 Burgundy last night. I don't put a whole lot of stock in generalized pronouncements of vintages so I thought I should pop a cork and see for myself. I chose a Dugat-Py Gevrey Chambertin Petite Chapelle. I've always enjoyed M. Dugat's wines and this one was no exception. This is a big, dark brooding wine with a dark almost inky red color. Notes of black cherry, bittersweet dark chocolate and wet earth on the nose. Flavors of cassis, black currant, black cherry and coffee with very little Gevrey red dirt terroir. Firm yet balanced tannic structure and acidity leads me to think that this wine will need a few years to fully develop and will last a good 10-15 years in the cellar. Bi!!
