My wife has got a couple of Arachon Evolution '99 as gift - but she's not able to tell me anything about it. It should be a dry red. Can You help with a hint about quality and when to drink, it would be preciated.

Not his top wine (this would be "Privat"), but I don't know where this comes in his range. If it's at 12,5% alcohol (or more), then it's a keeper, if less, I'd give it a try.

Nikolaihof wines are amongst the most unforthcoming in their your, but reward patience. Don't touch before 5 or, better, 7 years old.

Which one? Plain Heiligenstein, Lyra, or Alte Reben? What's the alcohol?

Again, take a look at the alcohol. The higher, the more a long distance runner it will be.

I have heard of many 2001 whites closing down at the moment, so I would leave them for a year or two.

A dry blend of blaufränkisch, cabernet-sauvignon, zweigelt, and merlot. Although a good year, not rated very highly be me at the big Austrian tasting back in July 2001:

But it's quite possible that it has put on a little weight. Drink or hold.

I'll plan on drinking the Bründlmayers in a year or two, the other two in 5+.
