Norther California / Sonoma Wineries?

My girlfriend and I will be spending the weekend in the Sonoma / Russian River valley area this weekend and are looking for a good winery (or two!) to pop in and have a tasting. We both love wine but do not claim to be experts in the subject - we're just looking for a friendly, comfortable place to spend some time in.

Can anyone recommend a specific place to visit?

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that you visit Lambert Bridge and Pezzi King and then go to the Jotemdown store on Dry Creek Road and get a sandwitch to take with you to Dry Creek Vineyards for a picnic lunch (these places are all right together and all very friendly)

I'm biased but I am a big fan of Zindfandel so I would recommend Ravenswood actually just outside of the town of Sonoma. In addition, Domaine Carneros the California arm of the House of Taittenger is on the lower end of Sonoma. But from Healdsburg over Highway 123 there are many excellent wineries.

Excellent suggestions, Bill... EXACTLY what we do when we head up there!

I'd also recommend swinging by Seghesio, Alderbrook and Sonoma Vineyards. Sonoma Vineyards makes a great ultimate destination if you start with that picnic lunch at Dry Creek Vineyards and head up Dry Creek Road hitting some of the smaller vintners like Unti and Talty on the way. Keep in mind the smaller places might need a call in advance, as they are by appointment. Those smaller winemakers often make for great discoveries.

Don't miss the chance to swing by Seghesio, though.
