Obscure request for German wine with "Loth" in name

A friend has asked me to help locate a German wine that he fell in love with, two years ago, at a restaurant in our area (Southern California), but cannot locate now. What he recalls is that the producer's name was "Loth" ...... or at least that's what he thinks. I've Googled my mouse off and can find no reference to anything like that, except for one producer called "Lother", but there is no detail regarding them. I was hoping one of you, especially those in Europe, might have a clue.

Oh.... and the restaurant has changed it's wine list since, and the owner doesn't recall the wine in question. Might be a wild wine chase, but this group can do wonders sometimes.

Thanks.

Hi There's little to go by. If we assume that only producers of some repute sell their wines abroad there's the possibility the producer could be Weingut Roth in Franconia.

They use the traditional "Bocksbeutel" bottle for many of their dry wines. Does your friend remember whether the bottle was unusual? hth Anders

Thank so much, Anders. I had called the restauarnt, but nobody could recall the wine....... until this afternoon. I just received a call that it was a Gruner Veltliner from Weingut Leth, in Austria,

I can now help him find the wine. Do you happen to be familiar with it, by the way?

As to the estate, Franz Leth (running the estate with his brothers) is considered solidly based in the second rank of Austria's top producers. That normally translates into quality that's nearly on par with the very best, but at much friendlier prices.
