PINOT QUESTION

Hello All,

(My first post so be kind please), my wife and I are starting to get quite obsessed by wine and have begun converting a cold cellar to our wine cellar her in Ontario, Canada (hoping to be able to store upwards of 500 bottles).

That said, our tastes definitely run toward the bigger reds, syrah, cab, merlot, zin, etc. and with all the recent fuss over Pinot, we've tried a few - One in the middle of the scale (Estancia), and one last evening that is sort of in the mid-higher scale (Saintsbury, 2000).

My question is this, we absolutely loved the latter example as it was definitely 'richer' than what I would imagine most Pinots to be, does anyone have any suggestions of other Pinots that would lean towards a 'bigger' style? (Available in/or around my area of residence).

Cheers,

- Ian

Was this the Saintsbury Carneros? Generally nice wine, though unsure if I've had 2000.

As a gross generality, Russian River Valley Pinots are going to be some of the "biggest." Many are pretty pricey, but others are reasonable.

Thanks Dale, yes it was the Carneros - It was given to me as a gift in 2003, and it had been sitting in my wine cooler until this past weekend. We opened this bottle up, and a bottle of Ridge Zin (Geyserville) as well.

I really, really liked the Saintsbury, however I believe my 'immature' tastes will probably run more towards the bigger reds (I just love the Ridge products, having now a few bottles of Geyserville, Lytton Springs and Three Valleys) until I acquire a palate for the softer Pinots. If the Russian River Valley Pinots are similar to the Saintsbury, then I will try a few.

Appreciate the advice.

Cheers,

- Ian
