My father, who was a lawyer, born 1901 (so, about as old as wine #6), had one of those, as did my old Elementary school (or the equivalent thereof, in Sweden). THe passing out of mimeographed texts was always greeted by appreciative sniffing by the boys, who fantasized about the smell being similar to swedish vodka, and that, by inhaling thereof, they would become, ever so slightly, inebriated. Oh foolish youth and childhood.
