I know several people who have picked up the $300 models from Best Buy or CostCo and had great success. I think as long as they keep a constant temp you should be fine.

Thanks for the help. Two more questions:

Where's the factory?

And I notice that some units have dual temperature control for whites and reds in the same unit. Given the size of these mini cellars, is it really possible for the the two types of wines to be stored (or chilled I guess) at different temperatures?

I think the ones I've seen just take advantage of the fact that cold air is heavier and sinks, so the top is naturally a little warmer than the bottom. But you're right -- in a small unit, the difference in temperature will be minimal. I leave mine at a temperature that's a little too cold for reds, and let them warm up in room air or through decanting. The whites are about right, but I might throw one in the fridge a little while before drinking.
