Selling 6 x Grange 1998

Aug 18, 2003 1 Replies

I have a sealed six-pack of Penfolds Grange 1998.

Now, I could do with the cash ... So... where is the best place to sell it (ebay / winecommune / 'proper' auction / privately)?

I see them listed at about $200 per bottle auction price - is that about the going rate? Is a sealed case likely to get a better price?

Does anyone know what the UK price is for these?

Thanks in advance

$200US per is about right I would think. I paid $198 each for mine and retail in the US has varied from $155-180 at Costco and Sam's Club (limited and sporadic offerings), and then $195-250 or so from the retailers not gouging the price.

There is still a decent supply out there from what I can see, but having already tasted this I think that will change fast once people see just how gorgeous this Grange is. I am not a shiraz fan, but the 1998 really blew me away.

My advice would be to hold it for 2-3 years if you can. At that point with the retail supply at release price fairly well exhausted, you might be able to get a bit more for this.

As for where- I would suggest private sale or winebid.com. eBay can be good for wine, but depends on your location. Seems you are in the UK and I am not sure what eBay rules are on alcohol sales outside the US.

Tom.
