Last night, Jean decided upon lamb as the dinner (always a hit with Andrew) so we broiled a rack of lamb and opened with it:
2000 La Fleur de Boüard (Lalande-de-Pomerol) nose: pencil lead, dark cherryish fruit, herbal/tobacco palate: medium-full body, decent acidity, smooth tannins, deep fruit
This was our lone bottle of this modern Bordeaux, produced by the owner of L'Angelus in St. Emilion, one of our favorite "modern" Bordeauxs. In fact, this bottle was purchased in NYC the day after visiting Dale and Betsy back in '03. True to form, it was a fairly "modern" Bdx but not at all over the top or "gobby." It was recognizably Bdx and a good match with the lamb. An hour after opening, it had lost a lot of its fruit and seemed leaner, so I would not advise holding onto this wine more than a few years more.
