Having not had much Aligoté, I was interested in trying this wine, by most accounts one of the best expressions of the grape. So, tonight with a light supper of soup, salad, bread and cheese, we opened:
2004 A&P de Villaine Bouzeron ($18) nose: ack!!! is that TCA? it seems to blow off, leaving some minerals, iodine, and some appley fruit palate: tart entry, not much fruit showing midpalate, a bit toasty, long finish of minerals and acid
From what we could tell, this bottle was probably a victim of "fruit scalping," but what remained was still quite attractive. It bore quite decent resemblance to a Chardonnay from the Côte Mâconnais, though the fruit (or lack thereof) was a bit different. We'll definitely have to get some more to try.
