After discarding most of a Sonoma PN, I unscrewed a bottle of the 2005 Dr. Loosen Erdener Treppchen Kabinett. Enough sugar I glanced to make sure I hadn't opened a Spätlese, but the sweetness is offset by vibrant acidity. Round in the mouth, but lively. Beautiful white peach fruit with a squirt of lime, a slatey minerality surrounding the fruit. A little herby/spicy note on the long finish. Excellent for under $20. With mixed reviews re 2005s I'm sticking my toes in slowly, but this is a rebuy. B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
