[TN] '99 Palazzo della Torre

I've liked this wine, have one left. Indeed not complex, but a nice and typical (if modern) Veronese wine. Whether I'd like more than a traditional Valpo is probably based on what we were eating, as this is a lot bigger. But here's what confuses me- I just looked at Cellartracker. I paid $14 for this. They have Winebid quarterly average as almost $60. Did this get some big points I never heard of? Good wine at $15, terrible QPR at $55.

I Googled it after reading Mark's review to see if I could find any. Parker and WS gave it 90 points and WS rated it #58 in their annual Top 100 a few years ago. I checked on WInesearcher and the prices were either $24.99 or $125....Go figure! Bi!!

Yes, I think that this is made as a Ripasso IIRC but to me not nearly as interesting as Zenato's "Ripassa." About those w-s prices: good grief! Yes, decent QPR at what I paid (~$12-15) but $55? Get serious! For that, you could get an Amarone.

I've seen it as high as $20, but it's usually atround $18 here. If Winebid is getting $55-60 for it, somebody's getting hosed.

Problem here is the Zenato ripassa used to sell for around $13-15, and now it's twice that. So, if I'm chosing between the Pallazo della Torre and the Zenato, I'll generally take the Pallazo. There is not enough quality differential to justify Zenato's much higher pricing.
