TN: Lunar NY- Riesling, Gamay, Sangiovese, and more

With scallop ceviche, 2017 Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica. Good crispness, salty rocks, white fruits. B

Roast chicken, broccoli rabe, sweet potatoes:

2009 Chermette/Vissoux ?Les Garants? Fleurie Shows the ripeness of the vintage, a wet sloppy puppy kiss of a wine, but who doesn?t like puppies? If you are looking for precise delineated Beaujolais, not the wine for you, but fun. Sweet ripe black cherries, very floral, giving. B+

Takeout sushi and leftovers:

1995 Fritz Haag Brauneberger-Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese So strange. I spotted this in cellar, VERY protruded cork, capsule almost off. Looked like a frozen bottle, but on a rack with many other wines that show no damage (and basement a steady 50). But it shows fine- dry peach, petrol, touch of lemon curd. Pretty dry, moderate acids. Quite enjoyable. No sign of oxidation despite cork. B+

Saturday I invited friends for Lunar New Year, and started with traditional Chinese appetizers of duck rillettes and roasted chickpeas. Wine was the NV Barnaut ?Authentique? Brut Rosé. Tart cherries, pleasant citrus bitter note, crisp. B

Nancy made dumplings, I did soy chicken wings, char sui, rice, bok choy, whole sea bass with ginger/scallions, longevity noodles

2018 Keller Riesling Trocken Granny Smith, ginger, lime. Dry and taut, in a good way. B+

2010 Chermette/Vissoux ?Poncie? Fleurie So this IS your precise delineated Beaujolais, black raspberry and cherry, rocks, spice. Floral and delicate but with backbone. B+/A-

2016 Mocali Rosso di Montalcino Ripe cherry, hint of vanilla, soft for Sangiovese. B

After an all day meeting Sunday, just leftovers from night before, with the 2009 Jager Ried Achleiten Gruner Veltliner Smaragd. Pretty weird showing- modest acids, a little heat, a musky florality than is more like Viognier than GV. Not a fan. C+/B-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
