Sorry I can't help- my brother & parents live north of Atlanta, but we seldom venture downtown. Is Ga. Tech far away- no wine, but you could always try the Varsity, apparently still a Atlanta institution (I haven't been in 20+ years).

Ewan, I don't know your taste but in Buckhead a great casual--high energy place, called Twist. Food is very good but casual.
Real high energy place. If you have a car they have Valet Parking.
Fusion food. Everything is very good and they have an extenive wine by the glass menu. You can have outstanding suishi, pizza, even French style bistro food.
Its a local favorite.
