Well, I tried the various suggestions, but to no avail. Finally, in semi-desparation, I cut off a corner and poured -- and poured -- etc. It was a dirty job, but I was willing to do it :-)

Yes, but all looked fine to me. I poured a cup of water into the bag, and it came out pretty well (not a gushing stream, but not a trickle, either). I buried it as a mystery.
