Grape varieties

Has anyone had any experience making wine from Fredonia, Villard Blanc or Chancellor grapes. These are recommended for our area by the Extension Service.

Forget the Fredonia for winemaking (low brix and too strong labrusca flavour) they are o.k. as table grapes.

I make Chancellor, it's a good hybrid. I make it very tannic so most would not like it. If you leave it on the skins you will end up with an inky black wine. I have some from 97 that is still too young to drink but is coming around.

You don't have to do that, just keep an eye (tongue really) on the extraction.

It makes very good vinegar as a heads up, really powerful.

Don't recall making Fredonia or Villard Blandc but do make a bit of Seyval; it's another great hybrid.
