Re: Eastern Ontario Grapes

I should clarify. These cuttings were started the end of March this year in a 50/50 mixture of Canadian peat moss and perlite. They went outside the first week of June when each cutting had between one and 3 shoots. These cuttings obviously had a head start on any cuttings just thrust into the ground in spring. My major mistake was using small pots to root the cuttings as root development at transplant time was not optimum. There is some yellowing of the lower leaves as of 30 August. I am hopeful the vines are vigorous enough to withstand a brutally cold winter.

No, vines were removed from cloning pots containing the peat moss perlite medium and placed in a one foot wide by one food deep hole half full of two year old chicken manure compost and a handfull of potassium and phosphorus. Remainder of the hole was filled with dirt. The roots grew out of the rooting medium into the soil compost mixture.
