Dick, I am only familiar with home wine competitions in California and Arizona. The Sacramento State Fair has a comprehensive training program for all new judges. The Orange County Wine Society has sponsored an annual wine judging seminar for many years. The San Diego Amateur Winemaking Society just completed their seventh wine judging class a few weeks ago. I don't think the home winemaking community has the equivalent to BJCP.

In UK the the rules followed when judging wines are published by The Amateur Winemakers National Guild of Judges. They've been in use since way back last century, 1964 I believe. They can be found on
