2006 Diego de Almagro Valdepeñas Gran Reserva

2006 Diego de Almagro Valdepeñas Gran Reserva ****

In its price range (7E-8$), most wine is simple "fresh and fruity". Reds th at might as well be whites. This one is probably the only one that tastes l ike real wine. If the score scale would be normalized for "how well does it do for its price" this would be 100pts. Slightly dissolved red berry, cher ry and raspberry, and wood, chewy tannins, quite some acid, but not too muc h. A toasty vanilla finish. Good for food as well as sipping.

My wife said it was too acidic and drew spit all the way from her throat, s he could feel it squeezing the throat, so she had a sweet wiener beer inste ad. Oh well, wine perception is individual. I find it very pleasant.
