San Diego Restaurants

We are planning a trip to Southern California soon. We would like recommendations for places to eat. We would like a place with a corkage charge. The wine in my cellar is better and I am allergic to most California wines.

Fred,

Just to let you know, most California restaurants allow you to BYOW. I always call ahead to be sure. A small corkage fee usually accompanies that privilege. The most I have ever paid is $10, and that was in San Diego. Typically a good waiter will find a way not to charge your bill, and if that happens they anticipate some to all of the corkage fee to be included in their tip. I would rather give it to the hard working waiter, than the restauranteur.

Von's has a nice deli. If you open your wine in the car and pour it into a couple Dixie cups I think you'll be just fine.
