A nice little IPA...

Quail Springs IPA from Deschutes. An abundant amount of malt flavour...a bit like the old Woodstock IPA from Portland only...better.

There. I've said it. Find fault with that, suckers! LOL!

Its been a while since I've had it but I remember it as being GOOD and quite balanced (at least for this part of the IPA world)

Now if I could only find the damn Pine Mountain Pils which for some reason failed to show up in my area this year.

I've got the Pine Mountain Pils here..it's moved into second place for(US) Pilsners I've had.(behind Victory Pils and just ahead of New Belgium Blue Paddle) Now, if Casper would just bring in the Batchelor Bitter....all would be right in the world.

OK. I find Quail Springs to be the one weak beer in the Deschutes lineup. I'm not pulling your leg. I find it underwhelming, muddy and with a weird, almost vegitable-like quality in the hops. I might be misremembering the weird flavor, since I haven't had any for a good year or so, but there was something that just seemed odd.

And, QS failed the how-long-does-the-six-pack-last test. A sixer of Mirror Pond or Black Butte disappears in days. QS lasted for weeks.

Now that I'll agree with. Pine Mountain is very, very good.

I like the malty flavour of QS. It seems to keep the hops at bay. Not something I'd normally appreciate but, for me, it works.

Hmmm....no mention of the Obsidian Stout, which I rank right up there with the local Zonker Stout from Snake River. Btw, Mirror Pond....I always have a 6er of it in the fridge. The Cascade Ale also finds its way to my fridge but the Black Butte I can live without. Over all, I'm very pleased that Deschutes products found their way to my neck of the woods.

Seems like I'm always trying to convince you you've had a bad batch of those I find favorable. Fresh and refreshing around here all the time. No mud, though you may have pinned the vegetable-like hops quality.

That's one I've been successful at converting fizzy piss-water beer drinkers over with. Handy to have around.

I am drooling over this thread, I like every beer from Descutes. Black Butte and Quail Springs are pretty much always $12/12 in my neck of the woods, and $7/6 for the Pine Mountain. My local Haggen's grocery store (two within 10 miles) stocks all available Deschutes at all times. It seems all the local pubs have Black Butte on tap. I am overrun with beer goodness.

Obsidian Stout is the staple of my refrigerator. There's a place in Winthrop, WA called Three Fingered Jack's where you can order an Obsidian Stout pushed with Guinness gas. mmmmmmmm. Almost worth the 2 hour drive over the North Cascades mountains to get there. Not to forget Winthrop Brewing! And the camping! Oh, the camping!

Find the QS to be less than impressive. Cinder Cone Red, however, is a bottled Deschutes product that pretty much rocks.

As you pointed out earlier, Blue Paddle and Prima are top notch Pils interpretations - though the keg of Tuppers Hop Pocket Pils that just died here wasn't half bad.

While Deschutes bottled product is certainly respectable, their beers seem to show their true colours at the pub. Nothing like a cold, blustery evening, a bunch of ski bimbos, and cask Mirror Pond to set things right.

Abomination! IMHO...

Why? Don't like creamy head? I do.

Yes, ma'am, I certainly do, but I don't care for the other effects of nitro. I don't mind it for Guinness, since it seems to complement it at least somewhat. But in other beers, I don't care for the way it strips out aroma and carbonation. IN addition, there's just a little too much trendiness associated with nitro pours. I mean, I've seen cream ales served on nitro...gimme a break! There are lots of other ways to achieve that creamy head, and in general I feel they're kinder to the beer flavor and aroma. But to each, their own, so if you like it I'm not gonna tell ya not to drink it...just give me a pint served on CO2!
