Belgian Beers - Lambic, etc

I'm not sure which supermarkets sell what, but I especially like...

Westmalle (safeway?) or any of the other Belgie Trappists like... Chimay Blue (despite the talk of dumbing down, I reckon it's still probably very good, tho I've not tried it recently) Hoegaarden Wit (it may be brewed by smella fartois, but it's still excellent beer IMO) - I think safeway also have the lesser-spotted Dentergems Wit. Like you, I also like the Liefman's fruit beers (sharp intake of breath from purists!) but have not had the un-fruity Goudenband or Gluhkriek - their spiced cherry beer which is supposed to be drunk hot. Duvel is another all time favourite (strong golden ale). cheers Mike

Yes, I see what you mean ... as I said I was just trying to be helpful (and got a bit carried away - and managed to accidentally post a reply to 2 NGs - DOH!!) .... anyways, as for the beers ... my Dads favourites were the Delirium Tremens (which comes in an amusing bottle with pink pigs on it?!) and Chimay Red. He wasnt too keen on the Liefmans Kriek which is a bit cherryfied (if that's a real word!), he liked the others too.

Noone's mentioned Kwak so far in this thread, which is my all-time favourite Belgian ale.

Quite a strong ale (8%), and very easy to drink - quite a dangerous combination. It's quite a dark coloured beer, but has lots of delicate flavours - the taste has more in common with a whear beer than a UK dark ale, for example.

Part of the fun is drinking it out of the absurd glass with the wooden stand as well..

The downside is that it's not too easy to get hold of -- although I did manage to bag four bottles of it and the wooden-stand-glass at Charloire airport a few months ago.

Have a try, and let me know what you think.

Personally, I find bottom posting extremely irritating. Those that advocate it's use tend to have very short memories and oodles of time to waste. IMHO of course.

Well provided people use a compliant news client it inserts the right markers and the reader sees the latest bits coloured correctly.

There is of course the more obvious answer that proper replies tend to interleave with the relevant parts of the original text and answer the specific points as they arise.

This is logical.
