Castle Hotel

The last call on an excellent afternoon in Manchester and we find, 'Closed Until Further Notice'.

Oh dear! This was a Manchester institution. Is there some background to this from some local drinkers?

I heard that it had closed for "environmental" reasons.

Must admit it did need a good clean.

Off to Manchester tomorrow.

A couple of german ones at the Christmas market plus a few round the centre and the northern quarter.

"The demise of this pub has been put down to the smoking ban. Damien posted a message on the Manchester Confidential website explaining that his first year running the pub was fine but with the smoking ban he lost 60% of his trade. He was unable to provide for smokers as there is no outside area at either the front or back."

Not local but I did visit earlier this year. Sadly, beer not too good. But I spent many happy hours in the Castle in my student drinking days. It would be very sad if it's gone for good.
