I doubt it. Didn't he ave something to do with the decision? Anyway, yesterday's news.
A little harsh, Shirley? This is a bloke who was a significant figure in British brewing for well over four decades.
The Independent published an interesting obituary, penned by one Michael Jackson. It was here - - but seems to have been trimmed. So I'll post a scan on my website for a short while: .
There is also one on the British Guild of Beer Writers website at , which appears to have been written by Michael Hardman.
I'm obviously sad that John Young died. I'm a fan of Special London Ale, so I'm also sad that the brewery was "merged" with Wells. However I can understand the reasoning behind it. The only certainties of life are death, taxes - and brewery closures.
BTW I posted a link to an excellent obituary in the Times. Must have been a few weeks ago now. Hence the reference to yesterday's news.
I'm losing the thread a bit here. Back in May, you posted a link to a item in the London Times about the closure of the brewery. John Young was still very much alive at that point, he only died on 17th September.
I suppose that, by "yesterday's news", you meant the brewery closure. I've been thinking that you were referring to the death of John Young.
Joyce no function beer well without.
