And they say universities are dumbing down. Brunel must be spinning in his grave.

But you must in idle time spent a few minutes flicking beer mats. Over the years I have spent on and off time doing the same.

What is actually needed is/are beer mats that can prop up even/ the level of the tables on which we place our pint glasses. Get to the pub sit down , find the table has a wobble akin to a trawler in a heavy swell. Look at the problem then start to fold a convenient mat into multiple sections to overcome what may turn into a major disaster if the table is knocked without wedging a leg.

Good for the singing of sea shanties though... adds a bit of authenticity.

I think it's something called "marketing bullshit". Old advertising adage: If you've got absolutely nothing very good to say about the sausages... ...try selling their sizzle.

If the beermat flipping was a far as it went I'd agree, however if the aerodynmic application is applicable elsewhere then that is a different matter. Science is often about understanding what happens in our day to day world. Once that is understood the model can be applied elsewhere. No doubt someone thought Newton was dumbing down watching apples fall from trees.

I went to a pub on (off?) the island of Ruegen in Germany which was an old fishing boat in the harbour. No doubt there are some here as well.
