long tale of woe snipped (and staying off-topic):

To be fair, the Austrian beer scene isn't that bad, and some of what you describe as "Eurofizz" is very palatable indeed. Stay away from Goesser, Zipfer, Schwechater etc., and stick to the smaller breweries would be my advice.

If you were in Salzburg, I sincerely hope you paid a visit to Moellnerbraeu. They only brew the one beer, AFAIAA, but it isn't Eurofizz, and it's very tasty indeed.

You really ought to have paid Vienna a visit. Given that I was there myself last week, I could have bought you a pint at one of the several brewpubs there. The 1516 Brewing Companyin Schwarzenbergstrasse is a partiicularly fine example.

A visit to the town of Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Republic surprised me in several ways. There are now at least as many places selling InBev products (Pilsner Urquell, Stella Artois etc) as those selling the town's own Budvar. The one-time market hall which at some point became a restaurant, and which I always took to be the Budvar brewery tap ("U Mlasne Kramy"), is closed down and derelict. There is a new beer hall in a hotel at the opposite corner of the main square, which seems to be the new brewery tap. The Budvar there was far too fizzy and far too cold.

Budvar are also producing a 7.5% abv version of their beer, in 33cl bottles, called "Bud". I love that!

There is a restaurant on the main square now which sells beer from the "Budweiser Buergerbraeu" brewery, allegedly founded in 1795. I've never heard of this one before, and I didn't try the beer.

When I was in Vienna in April, a native who had been singing the praises of British beer recommended a brew pub or similar called the Seven Stars, somewhere near Volkstheater. I didn't make it there, as I didn't get further than a purveyor of dark (and numerous other) beers on Judenplatz.

Afraid not. Looking at a map, it was on the corner of Jordangasse, and is fairly easy to spot.
