Tetley's brewery could face axe

says the Yorkshire Post: .

"THE owners of Tetley's brewery in Leeds are in talks with the city council over the future of the historic site. The plant could be closed under Leeds City Council's redevelopment plans for key areas of the city.

"Carlsberg, which owns the brand, is to meet city planning chiefs in the next few weeks to discuss the council's Leeds City Centre Action Plan.

"Tetley has been brewing in Hunslet since 1882.

"The company said yesterday that no decisions had yet been made, but that talks had taken place and more were planned. Three hundred are employed at the site."

Plus more in the same vein.

.

A prime site in the middle of the city. They would be daft not to sell it for a huge profit. Given that they are in the business of making money rather than a quality product. And that they don't care a hoot about the employees. (Anybody remember Boddington's - now apparently demolished?)

This has been discussed ad nauseam on the Yahoo! forums.
