Turkey in the pot

Sure... clean the pot, and make sure there's no turkey or oil left in it.

Seriously, if the pot looks clean and smells clean and feels clean, then it is clean. Don't worry about it.

The pot I will be using to brew a batch of stout was previously used to deep fry a turkey. Can anyone recommend a way to make certain the pot is absolutely clean? I don't want a turkey and oil flavored stout.

I agree with Dave, You could even fill it with water, add some Dawn, and get it boiling.... Doesn't Dawn "take grease out of your way"? Remember to rinse well...

I made a batch of stout yesterday in a turkey fryer. I'm going to buy a fryer before I make another batch of beer....that was the best darned setup ever! Plus, my house doesn't smell like a brewery...I like it, but other folks think it smells like garbage.

Those turkey pots are just big metal pots anyway, so I wouldn't think anything could stick in them with a good cleaning and rinsing. Even if it did, maybe Turkey Grease Ale would be good! :)

FYI, most of the turkey fryers are aluminum. I have heard bad things about boiling wort in aluminum. I found a good deal on a stainless steel pot at Kohls and I use it with the burner of my turkey fryer.

OK,one more time...there is nothing wrong with boiling wort in AL. It has been scienticially proven many times that it's OK and that AL doesn't dissolve into the wort. The old saw about wort having too low a pH to use AL is a myth. The ribbons on my wall from beers made in AL kettles should prove that it doesn't affect the flavor. Anyone who tells you not to use AL needs to update their knowledge base!

BEER HERE!

Jeremy Anderson - Also brewing in AL in So.California.

I don't have any ribbons... but only cause I drink the entries before I can get them to a judge! My friends all beg for more so it must be good. That's all the praise I think I'm gonna get. :-)
