I'm glad you didn't ask me what I didn't like about it, Dave. I would've
just sent the bottle ta you! Which I'll still do, if yer in the USA.
Enjoy yer Macallen. I hoist a wee dram or three of Bowmore 17 in your
general direction. That being unknown, I'll hoist one each N, E, S & W!

I've seen it at the shops here, but it's priced higher than most of my
favourite Islays. I won't spring for that much without some very
positive recommendations, and I haven't encountered any.

I have recently had a dubious pleasure of tasting Penderyn NAS Madeira
Finish 46%, which put me off Welsh whisky for some time. Apart from quite
nice chocolate, honey and fruit notes, there was something synthetic,
chemical both on the nose and on the palate, there were rotting apples,
bitter seeds, a kiwi fruit gone bad, the stuff was young, harsh and simply
unpleasant to put it mildly.
You're definitely better off with the Macallan, though its glory days are
long gone. Surprisingly, Macallan 1980 18yo was unanimously voted the worst
dram of the evening at a recent tasting. Sure, competition was strong, still
you would expect a better performance from one of the favourites.
