2002 Hospice de Beaune, 1999 Lafite,

I had an opportunity yesterday to taste a couple of glasses of wine.

2002 Hospice de Beaune Clos de la Roche GC Cuvee Cyrot-Chaudron-well developed nose of cherry, red raspberry, violets and wet gravel. Tart cherry and red berries on the palate. Firm bright acidity gaining weight and structure as the wine opened in the glass. Nice but not brilliant "B+"

1999 Chateau Lafite. Cool label with a representation of the solar eclipse painted on the bottle. Very tight nose of cassis and a bit of espresso. Medium weight on the palate with very little of anything else of note. The group felt that the wine was totally shut down and needed at least 8-10 years of additional age to blossom. After two hours in the glass a bit more fruit was evident mostly cassis. There were no off flavors or smells just very little of anything. NR
