Any special get-together happening?

Mark, if I remember correctly, Ian is talking fall of 2004. I've been trying to persuade him that a stopover in Westchester (he was to visit a friend in CT) was neccessary. The poor man is woefully undereducated as to the better US artisinal cheeses.

If I succeed in convincing him, you would be more than welcome to join us.

If I'm wrong, and he's planning on coming next month, I better start planning. :-) Dale

In regards to Ian's east coast trip, is there any special plans being made for an offline among us easterners?

Hi Mark, just to confirm that as Dale suggested, Jacquie & I will be coming in 2004. At first we hoped it might be this year, but with only €7000 in the kitty, we need to save for a further year!

As our plans are looking at this very early stage, we're planning on flying into one of the New York Airports, and after drawing breath, making our way up to Westchester to meet Dale. This would (after taking advice from y'all and my Enfield CT friend Dave as to the optimum date for fall colours) be in mid-ish October. From Dale's, we'd head up to Enfield for a few days before flying on to Seattle. We'd head north to Vancouver first, hopefully to meet Bill, who has been making "I'm chambréing the oie and fattening the bottle" noises but also to meet up with Jacquie's canadian family.

Thence (probably in early November), we'll be wandering more or less steadily southwards with various zigs and zags. We've heard from a few NWerly members of afw with suggestions that we may find the odd winery worth a visit, and we're very suggestible when it comes to ideas like that.

This will be the trip that takes to the Californian wineries as well, so we've been taking notes of suggestions as to "unmissable" places. After whiling away a week or three near St Francisco, we'll be wandering further southward. We hope to see any of the big parks that are worth visiting in December inor near southern california, and perhaps head even further south to Mexico. A lot depends upon who we'll be meeting up with on our way south, and how long we stay near them. We will need to be heading back to the UK just before Christmas.

Indeed not - just pulling your leg.;-)

I shall keep the fatted calf ready for your trip here.

Off to a big bottles event tonight - Salmanazars of Champers and Methusalahs of Mouton (75, 76, 90).

I shall endeavour to keep my wits about me in this event and unless lost in battle will submit a report from the front lines within the next couple of days.

I predict that the '75 Mouton is past it. Mine was. :^(
