Florence Italy What Wine Would You Buy?

My sister travels around the world and occasionally asks me if there's anything that I'd like for her to get me when in a certain country. On her last trip to Rome I asked her to get me a couple of bottles of Brunello di Montalcino and she did. She's leaving for Florence the end of this week and asked if I wanted any more wine. What would you recommend?

TIA.

John

Sassicaia--its way marked up here in the US. I know its a long time ago but in 1985 I bought the 82 for $15 US while it wholesaled for double that in DC and Maryland.

Also Eneoteca du Rham is a great wine shop with lots of exotic wines from Italy especially the Aosta.

Hi John, I would ask her to ask the locals for a recommendation. Lots of tiny wineries too small to export produce some outstanding stuff. And while you may find a great wine there for half of what you can buy it for here, nothing beats getting ahold of a great wine that you CAN'T buy here at any price. I find the best people to talk to are small town restaurant owners and B&B innkeepers.

Vincent,

Took your advice. I asked her to ask about wines from a smaller vineyard, not typically shipped to the US, from 1997 & 1999 vintage. Throw in A Barolo or two if one's available.

Thanks.

John
