OT: Blue Hill at Stone Barns

A friend suggested we go to this restaurant, located in Pocantico Hills, NY. Has anyone been to it recently, and if so, what were your impressions?

Dale, I seem to recall a post from you about this restaurant, or am I mistaken?

Thanks, Dean

I'm in Westchester, and have eaten at BH@SB a few times (it's a splurge). Truly beautiful setting (and if you get there early you can take tour of sustainable agriculture center) in old Rockefeller barns. Fantastic ingredients, and interesting dishes. Once we ate there (with Ian and Jacquie, and Ewan and Jenny) on aSunday night- a few of the dishes seemed not as precise.

Sidebar: My actual preference for dining in top restaurants is Th nights. The chefs are often off Sun/Mon, start sending out new dishes on Tues. Th is the balance that the dish is perfected and under eye of the chef, yet without the press of weekend. In an ideal world every night would be equal, but in no category where I've checked do we live in an ideal world.

Back to Blue Hill: Service has improved to excellent, wine list is reasonable by the standards of top notch restaurants (typically 2X retail). If folks care for wine, I'd consider having a minimum of a red and a white on the table at all times. Overall I find the cuisine more friendly to pinot noir/nebbiolo than to Cabernet Sauvignon powerhouses, and find crisper whites better than fat ones.

I think a look in Google groups would show posts my myself, Ewan, Ian, etc. HTH

Dale, it does. I appreciate your response. I'll troll through google and see what shows up.

Thanks, Dean
