Tasmanian Wines

Still unpacking the bags and looking for the notes, but here are some quick impressions

We tried several Pinot Noir Stefano Lubbiano Primavera 2006 Devil's Corner ? Ninth Island

a Pirie South Pinot Gris house wine from Mures Upper Deck in Hobart

There were more but . . .

Of the reds the Stefano Lubbiano from near Hobart was as the waitress who recommended it said "Awesome" it was fairly deep with just a slight tannic finish we had it with duck, a match made in heavan.

The Ninth Island was better than the Devil's Corner (very cheap but the only option one night in Cradle Mountain Lodge's pub restaurant) but the ninth was dilute in comparison to the Lubbiano that we enjoyed the night before. Such is the way of things that the Ninth cost more due to the attitude of the restaurant.

The whites, including another Chardonnay that I do not have a record of, were uniformly good, both Chards with body and presenting fresh with good acidity. I began to feel that one could not go wrong with anything in Tasmania, then I had the Devil ;-) which was perhaps the exception that madethe rule.

LOL read your advice with a little irony since I came back last Tuesday. Actually the road to Devonport as you describe it is a heck of a lot faster than the way I got there (through Queenstown the environmental disaster poster child of Tasmania) I didn't getto try the Freycinet what with my wife's watching my wine budget and drinking only in restaurants but enjoyed the Tamar wines that we had.

It was FWIW a fantastic trip frist in a while from which we were not close to ready to return home.My wife got her foot sniffed by a wombat (walked right up out ofthe bush sniffed her foot and then walked on brushing her as it went almost like we weren't there.)
