Opened a few nights ago to accompany a lightly (cherry-)smoked pheasant. This bottle was purchased last winter during a Sam's sale as part of my ongoing education re Burgundy.
color: dark ruby red nose: cedar, and lots of it!! with a bit of dark fruit lurking underneath palate: cedar and pencil lead, medium body, very ripe, decent acidity, and a hint of plummy fruit
The initial impression of this wine was so atypical that we decided to decant (carafe) a portion of it with little improvement even after an hour. Tasted blind, it could have passed for a Cru Bourgeois Bd'x from a light year instead of an AOC Burgundy. This is the only 2000 I purchased, being wary of the irregular vintage, and I couldn't help wondering if it wasn't damaged somehow -- but it showed no signs of cork taint and didn't have the flavor profile of a cooked wine. All in all, very odd and a disappointing introduction to the wines of Claude Dugat. Better luck next time, I suppose...
