If I recall correctly at least some top French wines were served at the recent white tie state dinner given by Bush for the Queen of England. It is well known that Her Majesty and close family members have a taste for traditional French wines, especially Bordeaux. Also the Royal Family, at least back to Queen Victoria, has a taste for fine German wines. However Her Majesty apparently does not usually serve Bordeaux first growths, Romanee-Conti, and the like. She could afford to, but she likely considers such a lavish life style a waste of money. She apparently keeps fairly close check of operating expenses for palaces and other property in general.
