Wine Humor on the Radio :^)

Excerpted from "Prairie Home Companion", a popular NPR show:

"I heard that out on the west coast, in an area that primarily produces Pinot Blanc and Pinot Grigio, they have produced a new hybrid grape that acts as a diuretic and will reduce the number of trips an older man has to make to the bathroom during the night. They will be marketing the new wine as Pinot More."

Yup, heard that this weekend and almost split a gut laughing. I don't always find PHC that funny, but that gag was a winner.

My favourite "wine gag" has to be Pseudolus's line "Was 1 a good year?" from "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum".

Hmm, would like to offer something in tribute. Nothing in the file in similar spirit. But someone may enjoy this, especially those who live or spend time in France.

-------- [Count Nikolai said] "When I was ill in Russia I always went down to the Datchina and they used to give me some strengthening soup which put me on my feet very quickly. I wonder if they could make it in this hotel. It seems quite a large place, and the French are always boasting about their food."

"I'll ask them," said Laura, "if you'll tell me what the soup was made of."

"Nothing simpler. It was made from the carcasses of the eight most ordinary kinds of game-birds."

"But, Grandfather, this is the summer, and I shouldn't think they have eight kinds of game-birds in France, not common ones. But they'll probably make you a soup which is just as good--"

He was already thinking of something else. "How I hunger for religious consolation ..."

I preferred the article from a NZ newspaper on a new clone of Pinot Noir, tasting strongly of pineapple and coconut, called "Pinot Colada".
