Hello, I'm going to visit Munchen this June, so I was wondering: which good products and producers should I consider? I'm going to get a wine atlas and start searching the area on myself, but I'm sure someone in this group can give some advice. TIA

München? Paulaner, Löwenbräu, Spatenbräu, St. Thomasbräu.... oh, you mean wine? :-) Anders
Well, there's Franconia, a mere 150miles away if I remember correctly and I think I could dig up some there for you, but you'd as well find a wineshop in München, there should be quite a few well stocked in German wine, even when the city is famous for beer...
I'd probably look for beer there, myself. It's like looking for wine in St. Louis or Cincinatti.

Horst Sauer springs to mind.
I discovered his wines in a large walk-around tasting (involving a lot more than Franken wines), and the quality of his wines stood out clearly. I believe he is also generally highly regarded.
Why do they put their wines in Mateus Rose bottles though? ;-)
Steve Slatcher states in part: "Why do they put their wines in Mateus Rose bottles though? ;-)"
The better question might be why does Mateus Rose use a Bocksbeutel? :-) The Bocksbeutel has been used in Franken for centuries, long before there was the commercial blend Mateus Rose.

It's 'Munich' or 'München', not 'Munchen'. ü = alt 0252
a rose by any other name .... it's all pink in the dark
Well, Baden is not that far away, and some of the whites from that region are excellent. Also if you are heading in that direction, drop in to Gasthof Hug in Stegen Escbach - very close to Freiburg. The owner/chef there is fantastic; good wine list too.
Ciao
For non Italian users: as Vilco is Italian I wrote him "directly".
PS: visto che passi dall'Austria, perchè non fare provvista di TBA o Icewine?

Checking distances I found that Freiburg (Baden) is 410km away (255 miles) and Würzburg (Franconia) 280km (175 miles)... There is wine made closer to München, I believe, but not great wine (the city is at a relatively high altitude 500m00feet above sea level, I think). hth Anders
