Wines in Movie "Sideways"

Real wines and in many cases real wineries. (the mega cellar fess canyon or some such being a take off on the Disneylandization of wineries) the first place they stop at has recorded a huge increase in business.

If you go to the web site for the movie there is a map that displays where all the movie scenes were shot and the actual wineries involved.

Look for "Miles and Jack Wine Tour" Link at bottom it is a PDF file.

We have been going up to these wineries for over 10 year and love the area and the wines.

Is Miles's character a typical personality that I might find at a winery? What I mean specifically is his 'rudeness' in stating that he dislikes a wine. I have only been to a couple of wineries, and even though I did not like a wine, I did not let anyone (other than my wife) know.

Somewhat. Folks like Miles aren't rare but not terribly common.

Typically, I'll be pretty gracious, sometimes offering mild praise for any one positive trait I find in the wine. If the hospitality staff is savvy, they *know* what they're pouring, and will knowingly nod or sometimes even quietly echo/amplify the sentiment, usually contrasting the characteristics of the wine with something they infer I'd like better based on what I didn't say.

Miles was dreadfully rude. No style at all but brutally honest. Jack had oodles of style but little sophistication and even less innate honesty and is profoundly insecure. Neither type is that uncommon at wine tasting rooms. The latter is more annoying.

Well put. As I commented in my own reply, good hospitality staff *knows* what they're pouring. They don't need to be told. They appreciate not being belitted for making making a living, either.

Well, another movie with Virgina Madsen and/or Sandra Oh looking as radiant and talking about wine would be pretty cool...
