"Sideways" Let's put it to rest.

I found more to like than you did. Sideways is a movie about failed human affairs, and the glimmer of redemption.

The wine stuff was really incidental, but satisfying in a way.

Hi all, I must apologize for this message. I'm an "older gentleman (usually)" and I might post a highly opinionated and inane message on occasion, but some of those brain cells aren't working as well as they used to. :-) Dick R.

I just saw it a couple of days ago. Yes, I agree. And it did a very good job of it. I liked it a lot.

Yes. Before seeing it, I had thought the movie was about wine and wineries, but that's not at all true.

Yes. It was accurate and not watered down. Very surprising for Hollywood.

Dick, Actually, I thought that you did a good critique of the movie. I assumed that your tongue was firmly in your cheek, but you were succinct and covered the high points. While I found it to be an enjoyable little film-noir (a clone of Pinot?), I would hardly base my Summer holiday on following the "Sideways Road." As we've already hammered Merlot in the group, the only real reservation that I have is that Pinot will befall the over production that Merlot saw in the 90's. I also could not find enough meat in either the acting, directing, or writing to suggest the Oscar Sideways craze. As I watched it for the story the first go, I might one day rent it and study the "wine" stuff a bit more closely, but I would hardly buy the DVD.
