UPS no longer shipping homemade wine

Hi All, Just received my Winemaker Mag. UPS is no longer shipping homemade wine! I called UPS and talked to several people and this decision came down from some green eyeshade weenie in Corp. I asked for the logic behind this decision but they couldn't give me one. Of course, they will continue to ship wine from Commercial wineries. ($$$$$$$$) This is going to affect homewinemakers everywhere and seriously damage wine competitions around the country. I sincerely hope FedEx doesn't follow UPS in this manner. I think we should start a campaign to get the policy changed back. Pass the word. BTY, I was told at one point that I could open an account and then could ship wine. Then I was told that only a credit card could be used. Then I was told that there would be a $60/ month charge for the service. Then I was told thast I need to give them my wine licence number. HELLO! I am a home winemaker. 5 gallon jugs in my utility room. $60 a month is not an option. Wine licence number is not an option. So they don't know what they are doing anyway. Sure can tell when a company is getting too big for its britches. JAM

I wonder if they changed their policy after they read the article. Or if it was just cooincidence. If it was the article that irked them, you can blame me. I wrote it.

Jeff
