Am I to understand that a good wine filter such as the Boun types will eliminate the need for clearing the wine, that the filter is going to remove all the haze and dead yeast and stuff and get me a clarified wine? if so, I am buying one tommorrow.

NO! Before filtering the wine need to be already clear. A wine that is trouble will only clog your filter pads very fast and will cause you many problem to filter. The result wine will not be cleared because of the damage filter pad structure. The filtration is the last step you should do to your wine before bottling. It help to stabilise the wine color and clarity by removing such very small particules that you do not necessarely see but that could drop in the bottle later and form a sediment. The wine will be crystal clear this way.
