Coors

Has anybody heard about Coors having their own micro brewery? Apparently the I visit regularly has had a list of cask ales and been offered a substantial discount on barrelage, this comes after a decision to change to Hydes!

Did that list include Smiles by any chance?

Hmmm, Coors = Bass plant at Burton. Bass plant at Burton used to include the brewery Museum / Museum brewery which was the at one time the short run plant for test runs of Bass beers.

That fit your model?

Sorry folks I was misinformed it was not Coors which didnt sound right to me, it was Grays who our club gets supplies from, but I cant remember the name of the micro, too much milk of amnesia last night I think.

Grays is sold by an Eccles-based wholesaler (LWCC) who rebadges Coach House beer. AFAIK the OG's on the clips still don't match the actual Coach House beers (always lower). Hence Gray's Landlord (4.3) is actually Coach House Innkeepers (4.5), Bitter (3.6) is Coachmans (3.8), Mild (3.5) is Gunpowder (3.8) etc etc.

Prior to this, beers were rebadged Hydes and before that, Mansfield.

The micro that is on Grays latest leaflet which they claim? belongs to the is RingO Bells Brewery! The Grays mild which is rebadged Coach House Gunpowder is shown as being

3.8%

That's odd. Don't abvs have to be accurate?

There's no reason why LWCC/Grays don't deal with other micros - though I haven't seen much evidence of that around here. I was refering purely to the Gray's badged beers.

As to the accuracy of the ABV's the story I was told is that it was legal, though I wouldn't fancy your chances getting off a breath-test with that one ! It would be interesting what trading standards said. Maybe newer clips reflect the Coach House gravities (I think they were originally set to Mansfield beers and when they changed source they didn't want to give this away on the clip !)

I thought there was a tolerance each way of 0.5 percentage points.

Oh right - never realised that. That could make quite a bit of difference over the course of a long sesh.

I thought it was up to 1% either way, but I may be wrong. I know that the Fullers Vintage Ale last year was badged as 8.5% but was in reality

9.3%.
