Fat Cat in Sheffield

I have to admit I've never been wild about the Fat Cat, much preferring the Kelham Island Tavern (although CAMRA's best in the whole of the UK?? Hmmm!)

Last time I visited Sheffield, the best pub by far and away was the Wellington (formerly Cask and Cutler) a mere 2 minutes from the Shalesmoor tram stop. Brews its own beer (£1.90 a pint) and has several guests. The most we paid for a pint was £2.10! A classic example of an unspoilt town boozer.

The last two or three times I have been to Sheffield the Wellington has been the best pub I visited.

Some friends went about two weeks ago and they confirmed too that the best pub they had visited was the Wellington. I met them on the way back at Leeds Brewery Tap for a pint or three of Bishop's Farewell

Last November the brewer kindly showed us his brewery at the back of the pub.

I also prefer the Devonshire Cat to the Fat Cat . The food is excellent.

I have to admit my favourite pub in Sheffield was the Bottom Wellie, too.

I also liked the Hillsborough Hotel (the Top Wellie), at which I stayed while in the city. And, as well as having good food there, I also found the beer at the Devonshire Cat kept better than that at the Fat Cat.
