Argiolas

I must admit to being a sucker for this Sardinian family's wines. All the Sardinian types are represented. If you've never tasted Monica or Cannonou you haven't lived!

Has anyone else here had the pleasure?

No, I let it breathe for 5 minutes and the whole thing got ruined.

Overpriced and too much wood. For the price of one top Argiolas I can get two or three Granges des Peres. No contest. And the Grange des Peres breathes wonderfully, for an entire day if required.

Cannonau is just Grenache, you find better results in Chateauneuf du Pape, Languedoc, Cotes du Rhone, same sublime base but none of the oaky coating.

Carignano also worthy of note in Sardinia, better than Monica, confers a nice acidity to these deep southern reds.

The better reds of Sardinia in my opinion come from the cooperative at Santadi.

But I guess you will challenge everything I wrote.

That's terrible!

Overpriced? $12-14?

I always wonder if wines should be allowed to breathe polluted air...

You actually drink F_____ wines? You cannot be serious. Never does anything from F_____ touch my lips!

I buy the Rocca Rubia regularly. Splendid stuff.

What about Nuragus or the Vermentino?

Good more for us.

With all due respect, Vermentino, last bottle I drank, Vermentino di Gallura, was white not red.

Cigare Volant?

I still had my doubts, especially because everyone kept replying to this not so subtle provocateur, but now that he has started railing about F_______, I have no more doubts.

Hello Mike,

Best of both worlds, lucky bugger. :-)

Two lovely countries I hope to visit someday.

IIRC correctly you have some knowledge of Australian wines, plus apparently excellent English, you never lived here did you out of curiosity?

Perhaps one day. :-)

I c. I'm sure you commented on Orange (the place) once. Perhaps I am mixing you up with someone else of Italian heritage.

Australia and Canada and their inhabitants are not particuarly disimilar. We feel an affinity for Canada, not sure if the feeling is shared.

I read something on your website (your wife I assume) lived in Canada, so I guessed you might have spent some time there.

As do I, as do I.

Mat.
