I'm looking to try good examples of Banyuls (I'll look for poor examples next month) that are available in the U.S. The only one I've had recently was the Chapoutier, which was pretty plonk-ish.

I agree that it is not tops, but I would not call it plonk...
Domaine de la Rectorie has several styles of Banyuls, IMHO the best.

The vintage being sold in the U.S. by Paterno (Chapoutier's Family-owned importer) is 1998. I found it really tired and dull.
