I sent the following before but it was not posted.
I believe that a very high percentage readers of this newsgroup are true wine aficionados, I also believe that most wine drinkers are not. That group just wants a wine that taste good to them. It may not be a great wine or even a very good wine but to them it is good because it tastes good. As some of this group continue to drink wine their taste become more sophisticated and they look for wines with greater nuances. I believe that most just want a simple enjoyable glass of wine at a fair price. I believe that the information provided by Consumer Report caters to that very large market. I also note that when a beginner asks for recommendations a good inexpensive wine the wines listed are not often available in middle to small markets. I work for a chain of wine and spirit shops that has twenty five stores that carry wines from DRC to Walnut Crest. Most of the wines we sell are in the $12-$35 range. State law says we can only buy a wines from state authorized distributors so in many respects we are prisoners' of the distributors. We cater to all types of wine customers and have been doing so since 1955 with a great deal of success. Both the Consumer Reports and now Newsweek (From the Wine Spectator) list wine the average wine drinker will enjoy and afford.
